SOS Festival Programme at uShaka

SOS Festival Programme at uShaka

Dear all,

Please take note of the following information.

BirdLife Port Natal is pleased to announce that it is partnering with uShaka Marine World and the Durban Natural Science Museum, to bring a taste of the Save Our Seabirds Festival from the Cape to KwaZulu-Natal. This initiative has enjoyed increased participation and publicity in the Western Cape, and Vernon Head, BLSA’s chairperson and Mark Anderson, our CEO are very keen that South Africa’s other coastal cities should begin to raise similar awareness of the threats facing our seabirds and the successes that BirdLife South Africa’s dedicated team in the Seabird Division have had in reducing the number of avian mortalities at sea.

On Monday evening 7 October we therefore invite you to join the uShaka team and Roy Cowgill and Steve Davis at uShaka and enjoy the following programme:

17h00 book signing, Shorebirds of South Africa: Roy Cowgill & Steve Davis, followed by a brief PowerPoint presentation during refreshments.

17h30: Light refreshments at uShaka Marine lecture Theatre.

18h00: Welcome and Introduction: Roy Cowgill.

18h10: Presentation: “Status of the African Penguin: heading towards extinction” – Judy Mann.

18h45: Presentation: David Allan/Martin Taylor on “Seabirds of the South African East Coast”.

19h30: Snacks at uShaka Marine lecture Theatre.

20h00: Visit photographic exhibition and aquarium.

Please do come along and show your support for this initiative – and we would also be grateful if you could spread the information far and wide. I believe that admission will be free.

Please note that there is no indoor meeting at Westville Methodist Church on Wednesday 9 October.

Looking forward to seeing you at uShaka.

Kind regards

Lesley
