What we learn with pleasure we never forget
Alfred Mercier

BirdLife Port Natal understands the need to educate the public about birds and the important role they play in any ecosystem.  It is only when someone becomes aware of this that they begin to realize the value of conserving birds.

Tell me and I’ll forget. Show me, and I may not remember
Involve me, and I’ll understand
– Native American saying

BLPN relies entirely on its dedicated volunteers to achieve its goal of equipping the next generation of bird enthusiasts and bird conservationists. Every year we organize our own educational events during National Bird Week and World Migratory Bird Day.

We also have valuable partnerships with the Durban Botanic Gardens and the Durban Natural Science Museum who help us in various ways during our events and, in turn, invite us to participate in the educational events they organize.  While our resources are limited, we are committed to the future of our beloved birds and are therefore always willing to participate in any educational events that include birds and bird conservation.

Should you wish to invite BLPN to your educational event or to consult with us on educational matters concerning birds or how to include birds in your curriculum, please email:

Education is not the filling of a pail,
but the lighting of a fire
