History and Development

Nearly 13 years ago when we moved in, the 2.4km2 garden (including the house) was just weeds, especially balloon vine and lantana; with only a queen palm and laurel tree. Over the years we have created an indigenous forest garden which blends with the riverine forest sloping down to the Palmiet River bordering the bottom of the property (altogether 3.6 km2). Our garden is home to over 90 species of birds, a few mammals and lots of insects and arachnids, especially butterflies, dragonflies and spiders.
