A smorgasbord for next weekend

Dear all,

There’s lots on the go for next weekend for birders :

Saturday 7 September. Kenneth Stainbank at 7:00 with Dave Rimmer who is standing in for Elena Russell. There is an entrance fee but they take Wild Cards – bring your tea basket and relax in the picnic area afterwards. Directions: From Edwin Swales Drive take the Wakesleigh Road turn-off. Turnleft into Sarnia Road, travel 2 km then turn right at the traffic lights into Coedmore Quarry Road. Travel 3 km, the entrance to the reserve is on the right – meet in the car park.

Sunday 8 September. Bird Ringing with Andrew Pickles. Venue to be advised. Please contact Andrew for details. Cell 082 338 3302 or barbet@venturenet.co.za.

Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 September. BotSoc’s annual Indigenous Plant Fair at Munies Sports Grounds, below the Botanical Gardens in Greyville. BLPN has a stand there so come along and visit us and buy a tree or shrub to attract birds to your garden. Entrance fee R5.00 pp. This is a major event for us, both in outreach and fundraising and member support will be appreciated.

Saturday 7 September. BirdLife KNZ’s bi-annual Forum meeting at WESSA, Umngeni Valley, Howick from 08.30 – 16.00. Roy Cowgill convenes this day, and brings guest presenters from the province and further afield to talk about their work and the conservation problems facing many of our birds. Everyone is welcome, there is no entrance fee, tea/biscuits available, but bring your own picnic lunch. This is really worthwhile if you’re interested
in the future of habitats, species and people.

Hope you make the most of one of the above opportunities.

Regards

Lesley
