After having a pin for the wrong entrance, it was corrected, and everyone ended up in the right place. We setup past the bridge near the noticeboard under a few nice big trees overlooking the grasslands.
Southern Red Bishops and Bronze Mannikins were there to greet us. As a few people had to leave early (one dedicated birder even just came for 90 minutes before going to work) the walkers decided to head out straight away. Little Bee-eaters were active, some even perching in the tree above our heads along with Purple-banded Sunbird.
The walkers came back having had views of Black-throated Wattle-eye and a young Red-chested Cuckoo. We were all later kept entertained by a young Diederik Cuckoo with a lovely rusty coloured head.
We were talking about LBJ’s (little brown jobs) when a Rattling Cisticola showed itself. Discussion also involved the plants around the area with Jenny Pahl noticing a different Leonotis from the usual Leonotis nepetifolia, which has a very different leaf.
Surprisingly we only saw and heard the usual ubiquitous Hadeda Ibis once we were on our way out…
We ended with up with a nice round 40 species.
