A large turnout of 22 people joined us on this outing. We settled down near the very over vegetated dam but the emerging termite alates kept the birds hawking and moving around.

Shy Sombre Greenbul didn’t realise that he normally hides away and sat out in the open to hawk the ‘flying ants’ along with Lesser Striped Swallow and African Palm Swift

Some Dark-capped Bulbuls also hawked along with an African Paradise Flycatcher and Fork-tailed Drongos.

Bronze Mannikins and a small group of Red-backed Mannikins were around but only a glimpse was seen of a Magpie Mannikinbefore it disappeared.

Yellow-rumped Tinkerbirds were also in the open unlike the vocal Red-capped Robin-chat. Both Amythest and White-bellied Sunbirds were also observed hawking.

A couple of Tawny-flanked Prinias also entertained us as they moved through the low scrub and grasses. The walkers, as normal, added a few extra birds to the list.

All in all a good morning with 52 birds being recorded. It was wonderful to have our chair join us on the outing.
