Walks are restricted to 15 participants per leader on a first come first served basis.

If a second leader makes themselves available additional bookings will be accepted
Attendance at activities is FREE for paid up club members. Non-members must pay R 50.00 p/p per outdoor activity / webinar.

Note the following:

If you are not able to attend for whatever reason once you have booked PLEASE remove yourself from the group or ask the admin to do so and give others a chance to take your place.

A reminder that each member and visitor will need to register for each event on the WhatsApp group by the deadline which is 24 hours before the walk/talk to receive details

REMEMBER: All members attend everything FREE – easy to join just go to our online application form which takes less than 5 mins to complete. Open the month you wish to check on.

  • Bookings HAVE to be done using the relevant WhatsApp group – there is a specific title for each sub-group relating to each activity as well as an activity description – you just need to click to join the group. The activity will close if the walk or sit-in is fully subscribed.
  • Each person attending must join the communication group for each activity as this will allow us to comply with indemnity requirements.
  • Some events allow us to picnic and socialise after the walk so please look out for details regarding this.
  • The activity leader will be on each TEMPORARY WhatsApp sub-group for the outdoor activity to provide details and directions 24 hours before the start of the walk.

An interesting talk on South Africa’s most threatened species. This is an expanded talk from the short one presented at forum and will also have 2 people talking about the research being done to preserve it from extinction.

Pigeon Valley (a remnant of the coastal forest which once covered the whole of the Berea) in winter is well known for Spotted Ground Thrush and if we’re lucky, Green Twinspot.  If you walk very quietly you might have a chance at Buff-spotted Flufftail. Difficulty | Easy to medium terrain

This is a small reserve in the Durban North area that is excellent for coastal forest birds. A good place to find Terrestrial Brownbul and Southern Boubou – look out for Spotted Ground Thrush. Register for this activity by joining the WhatsApp group when it is created – it will have a green tick. EACH person attending MUST register using the WhatsApp sub-group for this activity.

JUNE

Monteseel Conservancy is a pristine example of KwaZulu-Natal sandstone sourveld habitat, situated 800 metres above sea level. We will enjoy a slow, relaxed walk through the conservancy, taking in not only the birds but also the breathtaking scenery. This outing is perfect for birders and will also appeal to anyone with an interest in botany. The conservancy has become a popular spot for photographers, offering the chance to capture stunning images of birds in a beautiful natural setting. Likely species on the morning include Striped Pipit, Lanner and Peregrine Falcon, Cape Rock Thrush, Greater Double-collared Sunbird, and possibly Malachite Sunbird.  Register for this activity by joining the WhatsApp group when it is created – it will have a green tick.
