Violet-backed Starling
ikhwezelimacwebi/Witborsspreeu/Cinnyricinclus leucogaster
This bird causes much confusion among birders as the dull striped female looks very different to the smart violet and white male. However, the refractive colour of the male’s shiny violet feathers varies greatly with the amount and angle of light, and can also appear pink, blue or black, variations that are very difficult to illustrate in paintings.
