Spent a lovely 3 days in Mkhuze last week, our bird of the trip being a Bronze-winged Courser – daylight sighting great photos; we were also treated to sightings of a cheetah and a leopard. We were there over Christmas and spotted Black Rhino and Wild Dogs. This is a great reserve to visit.
The Mkhuze River was flowing just under the bridge and flooding both sides of the road virtually right up to the entrance at the Ophanse Gate.
Muzi Pan too is flooded right up to the road on both sides as well. Inside Mkhuze we could also see a goodly part of the Ediza Pan from the road which runs down to Nsumu Pan. Again the water level was right up to the road.
Our stay was exceedingly reasonably priced as we picked up the Low-Season rate of only R150 for two in the rest huts. The rate excludes Friday and Saturday nights. We were the only people in the Huts. This special offer runs from 16 Jan till 21 March and beats the 20% off for pensioners And the 40% off for Golden Rhino cards. Take advantage while you can!
