Description:

Located:
Close to Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve on the KZN South Coast, the Barry Porter Memorial Hide overlooks a vulture restaurant on the site of a breeding colony of 120 Cape Vultures. The hide offers visitors exclusive opportunities to observe and photograph these threatened birds up close in their natural habitat.

Two hour site visits (which do not include use of the hide) are also available.

Visitors will be taken to the cliff edge, where they can see the breeding sites and observe vultures soaring along the ridge at eye level.
This is a conservation project managed by Birdlife Trogons Bird Club in association with the landowner and UGU South Coast Tourism.

Specials to look out for:

Cape Vulture, White-backed Vulture, Yellow-billed Kite, Jackal Buzzard, Rock Kestrel, Lanner Falcon, Rock Martin, Alpine Swift, African Marsh-Harrier, Croaking Cisticola, Rattling Cisticola, Common Quail, Red-capped Lark, Rufous-naped Lark, African Pipit, Plain-backed Pipit. Ruppell’s Vulture has been recorded at the site. Oribi Buck, Black-backed Jackal and African Rock Python may also be encountered.
